Someone once said that every individual falls into one of two categories: you either loved high school or you hated it. Regardless of what describes your experiences between the fall of 1967 and the spring of 1972, the fact remains that period is part of your personal history. For the Lakeside High School Class of 1972, it is our shared history.
On Saturday evening, August 4th, 2012, you have the opportunity to celebrate or commiserate the 40th anniversary of our shared history – the five years we spent in that rather obscure structure on Briarcliff Road and that warm June 2nd evening at Adams Stadium that symbolized a passage from dependence to independence.
No matter what you might say about your time at LHS, you must recognize that during those years the world underwent some of the most dramatic changes in history. The escalation and then de-escalation of the Vietnam War; the Civil Rights Movement; the sit-ins and marches; Kent State; the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy; the moon landing; the birth of the Super Bowl and in particular that monumental game in 1969 when Broadway Joe changed professional football; Woodstock and all the music of the period; ahh, the music!
There are a variety of ways that we could have gotten together to remember LHS and the four decades that have elapsed since we officially began our adult lives. The Reunion Committee considered all possibilities including holding the event at a grander, more expensive venue like Lake Lanier. But in the end we chose a facility, Villa Christina near Perimeter Mall that was accessible, affordable, and offered something for all our combined tastes and preferences. We did so because one of our primary objectives for this reunion is to host the largest gathering of classmates than have attended any of our five previous reunions.
The Reunion Committee is very excited about this our 40th Reunion and extremely pleased with the beauty and amenities offered by Villa Christina and by the availability of a hotel within walking distance of the reunion site. We are also proud that the price to attend is $75, the same price charged ten years ago at our 30th Reunion. There will be plenty of good food and music (music located away from the main room to facilitate easier conversations), and two cash bars for those of you who want to enjoy adult beverages.
So we’ll conclude this letter by asking you to commit to joining us. We also ask for your assistance in locating and making contact with our classmates who are on the lost list.
See you on August 4th!
